Cadillac Village of Norwood: Under Construction Part IV

The new Cadillac Village of Norwood showroom and renovation project is coming along very quickly. After the foundation was set, steel work was raised in only a few days. Last week the cement floor was poured and walls were erected to complete the major assembly of the building.

This week, electrical and air ducting were being installed and the exterior walls were being prepared for siding and window installation. It looks like the completion target of early 2012 will be easily met.

The iconic round showroom of Cadillac Village of Norwood was torn down on Monday, August 29, 2011. In less than 45 minutes, the entire showroom was leveled.

Cadillac Village is in the middle of an extensive renovation project including the construction of an all new showroom where the old one once stood. The new showroom will meet Cadillac's latest standards for design and customer convenience.

For the rest of 2011, the staff of Cadillac Village of Norwood will be housed in three trailers alongside the building as construction begins. We will be open and fully operational during the entire process!

Where is the Saab 9-5?

2010 Saab 9-5

Saab. Its a brand that comes with baggage; much like finding the house of your dreams, only its in a bad neighborhood and it has an insect problem. Baggage in this sense, means it requires a little more dedication and effort to overcome said baggage, but in the end, the reward is far greater than risk.

There is a stigma, for better or worse, that comes with owning a Saab. On one hand there is a social stigma of Saab owners- them being uptight intellectuals fiercely loyal to the brand (i.e. "Snaabs"), on the other hand there is the brand stigma that it is a dead brand- brought upon by the frequent change in corporate ownership in the past decade.

In the middle of the Saab circus, their star child has been waiting in the lost and found tent wondering if anybody will come back to find them. The second generation 2010 Saab 9-5 was released into the wild as the vehicle set to bring Saab back into the limelight, but it never quite made it. So where is the Saab 9-5?

Saab 9-5 Interior

Autoblog concluded that "After a belated birth following much disorder and chaos, the new 9-5 paints a promising future for Saab." Enthusiast website SaabsUnited.com, "This is by far the very best Saab ever produced. It leaves previous 9-5 and the current 9-3 far behind." And Left Lane News concluded that "if only Saab can find a few more buyers for what might be the best car that nobody’s noticing."

Have you seen the new Saab 9-5 in person? I see dozens of them everyday in our dealership parking lot, but rarely ever do I see one on the street. Judging by the great reviews and personal experience driving one, I can only conclude that the Saab 9-5 is lost in the circus of the unknown. Without a healthy parent supporting it, the 9-5 was left to wander aimlessly in the massive and ever growing line of mid-sized luxury vehicles like that of BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Acura, Volvo, and its former sister Cadillac.

Amid all the headlines guessing who is going to buy the company or if it will even survive, a great car is being chained to dealers' inventory even with heavy incentives. It has style, it has performance, it has key features, its has comfort, and it is relatively affordable. But what it does not have is a strong guardian to act as a foundation for potential customers, new and loyalists, to overcome the baggage and kick start sales.

Coming up on its 3rd model year in 2012, its a slow start, but not too late for the Saab 9-5. With recent news that Saab will survive under new ownership, its the best time to become a "Snaab."

The next several blog articles will be dedicated to the second generation Saab 9-5. Stay tuned for an in depth look at the car that will bring Saab back.

Cadillac's CUE Set To Redefine In-Vehicle Technology

Cadillac CUE

In-vehicle technology, dubbed "infotainment" systems, have come a long way since the CD player of the late 1980s and early 90s. Cadillac's latest advancement called CUE- Cadillac User Experience- will debut in the upcoming ATS and XTS sedans in 2012 and change the way drivers interact with their vehicle.

Cadillac says CUE is "a comprehensive in-vehicle experience that merges intuitive design with auto industry-first controls and commands for information and entertainment data." Simply, CUE takes many available technologies in our life, like touch-sensitive smartphones, voice recognition, digital music systems, GPS technology, and text messaging, and integrates them all into one personalized, connected system in the vehicle.

GM's OnStar system in currently available in all models and was once at the forefront of in-vehicle communication and safety systems. It allowed a car to link the many computers and sensors in the vehicle to a remote location monitored by personnel to assist the driver in case of an emergency or unfortunate incident like locking keys in the car. It also allows drivers to obtain directions and even make phone calls without a cell phone. CUE takes OnStar technology to the next level by integrating it with nearly every other technology in your car, such as the GPS navigation system, multi-information displays, cell phone connectivity, and advanced audio systems.

This concept is not entirely new. A New York Times article quoted AT&T as saying five percent of cars are "connected," but in three to five years that number will be 100%. If you research vehicles today, most offer some sort of navigation system, bluetooth, and iPod connectivity as options, but Cadillac's CUE will take it all to the next level by reducing button clutter and simplifying use by adding customization options, multi-touch hand gestures, proximity sensing, haptic feedback (pulse feedback), natural voice speech recognition, and 3.5 times faster processing.

These features are now only found on small personal devices such as an iPhone or iPad, but will now be used in upcoming Cadillacs. The system will not replace the need for your iPod or smartphone, rather it will seamlessly integrate them by channeling their information while concealing them in a hideaway compartment.

Of course, the popular existing OnStar features will be integrated into CUE, as well as adding the ability to stream internet radio, traffic information, and weather maps with Doppler radar. One of the sure to be popular advancements will be the ability to read off incoming text messages and respond with preset responses.

CTS COUPE

The 2011 Cadillac CTS Coupe is driving sales in America. It is the best-selling mid-sized luxury coupe and vying for first among all luxury coupes.

In the SUV market, the Cadillac SRX is gaining ground as well. This year it jumped from ninth to second in the mid-sized luxury crossover market.

Vermont Cadillac Parade Shatters Record

paradeWe reported last week that Barton, VT was hosting an attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records’ record for the largest parade of Cadillacs previously set at 102 by a group in the Netherlands in 2002. Not only did they beat the record, they almost tripled it.

On Wednesday, August 17, 2011, 298 Cadillacs cruised through the small northern Vermont town on their way to a World Record. The parade was led by a pink 1959 Series 62 Cadillac convertible from New Brunswick, Canada driven by Brenda and Rick Goguen.

Barton, Vermont is home to Henry M. Leland, the inventor of the Cadillac and developer of the V8 engine. Henry M. Leland founded the Cadillac Motor Company in 1902. His initial philosophy was to build a car whose parts were 100 percent interchangeable. Leland’s wisdom and precise work was demonstrated in 1908 when Cadillac won the coveted Dewar trophy for interchangeability of manufactured parts in Brooklands, England after members of the Britain Royal Automobile Club picked three new Cadillac’s at random, dismantled and shuffled the parts before reassembling them. All three cars then ran the 500-mile Brooklands course without any issues.
