Norwood Cadillac: CTS models worthy of awards

Earlier this year, at the Chicago Auto show in February, Cadillac's CTS models were honored by both MotorWeek and Autobytel. The Cadillac CTS Coupe was a 2012 Driver's Choice Award from MotorWeek while the CTS Wagon was chosen as 2012 Wagon of the year by Autobytel.

The show MotorWeek airs weekly and decided the CTS Coupe was tops from a list of more than 150 cars across 14 lifestyle categories, according to Cadillac. Fifteen judges from MotorWeek's editorial staff based their decision on performance, technology, practicality, fuel efficiency and dollar value.

2012 CTS Coupe

“The CTS Coupe outshines its competition when it comes to style comfort and performance,” MotorWeek Host John Davis said in a released statement.

An online consumer automotive research website, Autobytel, picked the CTS Sport Wagon as 2012 Wagon of the Year for its aggressive styling, touch-screen navigation system, optional all-wheel-drive and enhanced ride-and-performance options, Cadillac says.

The CTS-V was also named the 2012 Readers' Choice Best Performance Car from About.com, showing the versatility and range of the CTS models. Since the CTS family launched in 2008, Car and Driver, Automobile, AutoWeek and Edmunds.com, among others, have recognized the notable nature of the CTS line, in naming them among the editor's top choices.

2012 CTS Sport Wagon

“We’re more than pleased to see the automotive press continue to respond positively to the CTS family of cars. It reflects Cadillac’s commitment to distinctive designs and our world-class performance,” Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac Marketing, said.

Norwood Cadillac: XTS and iPad right on CUE for you

The new Cadillac User Experience (CUE) launch for Cadillac will feature more than just amazing in-vehicle technology, each buyer of a 2013 Cadillac XTS will receive an iPad as part of the complete customer experience.

“CUE is intuitive, bringing touch and voice controls into the car in really unique and helpful way,” said Don Butler, U.S. vice president of Cadillac marketing, in a released statement. “With CUE becoming a signature feature of Cadillac, and with the launch of the XTS luxury sedan, this is an opportunity for us to build a new level into the luxury customer experience.”

CadillacXTSiPad01

The new CUE system will come with training and support for both the dealer and customer to allow both to give feedback, ask questions, or access support, Cadillac says. Parts of the new customer car service includes:

From Cadillac:

  • A Cadillac CUE App that enables shoppers to “test-drive” the system on an iPad, anytime, anywhere. The CUE app replicates many of the controls and features of the CUE center stack. The CUE center screen and control panel represents the first automotive use of capacitive touch and familiar multi-touch gestures.
  • Every 2013 Cadillac XTS sold in the United States includes an iPad customized for Cadillac buyers with the CUE App, along with the MyCadillac App and OnStar RemoteLink.
  • Each U.S. Cadillac dealership has a trained technology expert to assist customers, providing a personal, local first line of contact during both the shopping and ownership experiences.
  • Twenty-five new Connected Customer Experts are being deployed across the United States to support the launch of CUE. These connectivity experts provide a resource for in-car electronic technological training, sales and service assistance.
  • Cadillac’s existing customer assistance services have added specific CUE experts to answer owner questions. Cadillac’s customer assistance center in Austin, Texas, has specially selected and trained advisors who have expertise in infotainment and mobile devices to help answer questions.
  • OnStar, standard on every Cadillac, will have a direct link to these CUE experts as well, for any owners with questions or wishing to provide feedback.
  • Every new Cadillac XTS and ATS buyer will receive a welcome call, creating a personal contact to answer questions or provide feedback.

“We’re blending the advanced technology of CUE with the personal touches of a luxury experience,” Butler said in the statement. “We’ve built a thorough approach, enabling customers to give us feedback on the technology as they use it, as well as providing support for dealers and buyers who have questions.”

The XTS is Cadillac's new interpretation of the luxury sedan, they say. The XTS will be released later this spring and is positioned above the CTS product line. The most technically advanced car Cadillac has ever produced is the XTS, featuring Magnetic Ride Control standard. A 360-degree network of cameras and sensors to enhance driver vision is also offered, Cadillac says.

Your credit score is a number used by lenders that represents your credit worthiness and likelihood to repay a credit card or loan. Having a high credit score means you are a borrower who is less likely to default so a better interest rate can be offered potentially saving you thousands of dollars. Knowing your credit score can make shopping easier for your new vehicle, which is why Cadillac Village of Norwood we offer Black Book’s Credit Estimator.  The process is fast and easy. We’ll quickly deliver your credit score estimate without asking for your social security number or making any credit bureau inquires.

The credit score provided is an estimate based on the answers you provide and does not use actual data from a credit report. We use a score range which should closely match the credit score provided by a national credit bureau.

The general factors that affect your credit score are:

Your credit score is not affected by non credit-related information such as:

  • Race, color, religion, national origin, sex and marital status
  • Public assistance information
  • Income or employment history
  • Place of residence
  • How much savings you have
  • Interest rate(s) charged on your credit card or other accounts
  • Child or family support
  • Rent payments
  • Inquiries regarding your credit report that are made for promotional, administrative or informational purposes (applications for a new loan or credit, however, are considered.)

Norwood Cadillac: "Super Cruise" coming to a Cadillac near you

We've chronicled some of the new safety features from Cadillac, but it seems they're gateway enhancements to "Super Cruise" - a semi-autonomous cruise control capable of automatic steering, braking and lane-centering in highway driving under certain optimal conditions, according to Cadillac.

“Super Cruise has the potential to improve driver performance and enjoyment,” said Don Butler, vice president of Cadillac marketing, in a released statement. “Our goal with advanced technologies, like this and our CUE system, is to lead in delivering an intuitive user experience.”

Cadillac Super Cruise2 resized 600

The design behind "Super Cruise" is to make the task of driving easier on the driver in bumper-to-bumper traffic, on the freeway and on extended road trips. The safety technologies available in the Driver Assist Package on the 2013 XTS and ATS are being used as the starters for this driving system. The system employs radars, ultrasonic sensors, cameras and GPS map data.

GM's director of Global Active Safety Electronics and Innovation, John Capp, says the key in the semi-autonomous capability is the integration of lane-centering technology, which uses forward-looking cameras to see lane markings and GPS map data to anticipate curves and road characteristics.

“The primary goal of GM’s autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicle development is safety,” Capp said in the statement. “In the coming years, autonomous driving systems paired with advanced safety systems could help eliminate the crash altogether by interceding on behalf of drivers before they’re even aware of a hazardous situation. More than ever, consumers will be able to trust their car to do the right thing.”

The Federal Highway Administration recently funded a study on human factors in semi-autonomous vehicle operation that GM and its research partners conducted. A strong interest from study participants was having a vehicle that could drive itself. The participants wanted the workload of the driver eased for long trips when lane centering and full-speed range adaptive cruise control would really help.

Cadillac is road-testing the "Super Cruise" right now and says the system could be ready for production vehicles by mid-decade, hinting that the future could be here sooner than we think.

Norwood Cadillac: Cadillac luxury extends to customer service

About a month ago, J.D. Power and Associates hosted the Customer Service Roundtable in Orlando, Fla. and the esteemed rating organization recognized Cadillac as the 2012 Customer Service Champion. Cadillac was one of 50 companies earning the distinction out of 800 studied.

CadillacLogo2010 resized 600

The award isn't just for automakers either, to qualify for inclusion, a company must excel within its own industry and stand out among leading brands in 20 major industries evaluated by J.D. Power, according to Cadillac. This distinction proves that Cadillac luxury extends to its customer service and far behind the automotive industry.

“We’re in the midst of a mission to enhance every interaction a consumer has with Cadillac,” said Kurt McNeil, vice president of Cadillac Sales and Service, in a released statement. “We are strongly committed to customer satisfaction, and appreciate this external confirmation of our efforts.”

Customer feedback, opinions and perceptions gathered from J.D. Power's syndicated 2011 research was how the 2012 Champions were identified. According to Cadillac, the group of 50 represents the highest-performing U.S. companies that deliver service excellence - both within their specific industries and across all industries measured.

Cadillac made many changes to enhance the luxury customer experience, using comprehensive customer experience training for dealership personnel and an improved suite of owner benefits, called Cadillac Shield, to earn this award.

Also of note, in February, Cadillac was named the most-desired automotive brand in the U.S. by men, according to results of a market research test by Buyology Inc and uSamp, organizations that measured personal and emotional connections to 220 well-known brands across 10 industries. However, with the recognized style, luxury and now customer service, Cadillac transcends any gender preference to be a leader in luxury automobiles around the world.

New Cadillac Safety Features Shimmy and Shake

After highlighting the XTS and SRX models, the safety features they'll possess are worth looking into themselves. The patented Cadillac Safety Alert Seat uses vibrating pulse patterns on either the right, left or both sides of the lower bolster to alert drivers of dangers on those sides of the vehicle. Dangers from the front and back will see both sides of the seat vibrating.

“It’s good to see automakers experimenting with new technology to help communicate to drivers when their driving is about to get them into trouble,” said Adrian Lund, president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, in a released statement on Cadillac's website. “We commend GM for their innovative use of haptic feedback and hope that drivers find it helpful.”
Lane Departure Warning37.jp resized 600
The seat is part of the Driver Awareness and Driver Assist packages, available on new Cadillac models. The Driver Awareness Package, available on the XTS, includes Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning, Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Alert, according to Cadillac.
Available in the fall is the Driver Assist Package which has the Safety Alert Seat, Adaptive Cruise Control, Automatic Collision Preparation and Front and Rear Automatic Braking Systems.
Both packages will be available on the ATS and SRX models.
Using a combination of sensors and cameras, the Safety Alert Seat may alert drivers to threats faster than beeps or audio warnings. Seat vibrations can be selected by the driver from an in-vehicle menu. You needn't worry about vibrations all the time though, if a turn signal is on, lane departure warnings won't be activated, according to Cadillac.
“It’s akin to someone tapping on your shoulder in a crowd to get your attention,” said, General Motors Active Safety Technical Fellow Raymond Kiefer, in the statement. “Using the tactile sense to communicate crash threat direction provides an effective and intuitive way to cut through the clutter of visual and auditory sensory information that drivers routinely experience.”
The seats will also be connected to the XTS Park Assist system and Rear Cross Traffic Alert system, making parking easier.
Exterior cameras will be utilized so drivers can see the outside of the car with parking guides on an 8-inch LCD screen. While backing up, the seat with pulse quickly when an object is first detected directly behind the car, with increasing intensity as the object gets closer.

“We feel customers will appreciate the intuitive elegance of the Safety Alert Seat, and more importantly, will appreciate the ‘good vibrations’ afforded by the features linked to this seat,” Kiefer said.

Cadillac Village of Norwood looks at the enhanced 2013 SRX

The 2013 SRX was revealed at the New York International Auto Show, April 4, in New York City. Updated with the Cadillac User Experience (CUE), the SRX will be a state-of-the-art machine.

“The 2013 SRX illustrates the Cadillac philosophy of never leaving well enough alone,” said Don Butler, vice president of marketing for Cadillac, in a released statement. “The enhancements for the SRX – including CUE – are examples of how we’re developing advanced technologies and pushing them consistently through the Cadillac portfolio. They are also some of the key elements of the all-new XTS luxury sedan and ATS compact sedan, which will expand the Cadillac portfolio this summer.”

2013 Cadillac SRX 00167

Safety is at the top of the new features including Driver Awareness and Driver Assist technology packages. These include Rear Cross traffic Alert, Cadillac's Safety Alert Seat technology, Automatic Front and Rear Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control and more, according to Cadillac.

The CUE system will be standard in the 2013 SRX with a brand new design. According to Cadillac, the CUE pairs entertainment and information data from up to 10 Bluetooth-enabled mobile devices, USBs, SD cards and MP3 players with an infotainment system with voice commands, larger icons and fewer buttons for simplicity. CUE uses an 8-inch LCD multi-touch sensitive screen integrated at the top of the instrument panel. The touch screen will act much like the popular devices, phones or tablets you're already familiar with.

2013 Cadillac SRX 00488

Powered by a 3.6L Direct Injection V6 and front-wheel or all-wheel drive, the engine is rated at 308 horsepower and 265 lb.-ft. of torque. Other than the classic Cadillac style you'll ride in, the SRX features 20-inch wheel designs, with chrome or polished aluminum packages, and will come in: Evolution Green Metallic, Glacier Blue Metallic and Silver Coast Metallic.

Interior Enhancements

From Cadillac:

  • Standard HD radio
  • Bluetooth audio streaming is available for all collections
  • A USB port in the storage bin behind the CUE faceplate
  • The center console now features two additional USB ports, an SD card slot auxiliary input jack and 12-volt power outlet
  • New headphone and remote design for the rear-seat entertainment system, which also includes a rear USB port and SD card slot
  • New shift knob design
  • New steering wheel design
  • New instrument cluster with new driver information center for CUE integration.

Using microphones to detect ambient noise, frequencies are detected by a computer and cancelled out to provide a quieter driving experience in the cabin, and active noise cancellation is new for 2013. Keyless access, ambient lighting, power-adjustable pedals, heated front and rear outboard seats, heated steering wheel and the UltraView power sunroof are returning interior features this year, Cadillac says.

Safety

Cadillac is installing what they call a "control and alert" strategy that uses radar, cameras and ultrasonic sensors to help prevent crashes. These are designed to help the driver's vision and road awareness and will intervene to help prevent accidents without the driver reacting.

Front and rear automatic brakes are available to help prevent low-speed collisions, employing short-range radar technology and ultrasonic sensors.

 From Cadillac:

Driver Awareness and Driver Assist Packages

  • Forward Collision Alert
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Rear Vision Camera With Dynamic Guidelines
  • Safety Alert Seat

Side blind zone alert and rear cross traffic alert are standard. Each uses radar to detect vehicles that may be out of the driver’s vision, providing visual alerts in the outside mirrors and, in the case of rear cross traffic alert, audible warnings. StabiliTrak electronic stability control system with traction control, and four-wheel disc brakes with four-channel ABS are also standard, along with:

  • Dual-stage frontal and side-impact driver and right-front passenger air bags.
  • Head-curtain side-impact air bags.
  • Rollover mitigation sensors.
  • Front safety belt pretensioners and load limiters.

2013 Cadillac XTS Exterior

Generally regarded as the preeminent model of American old-school comfort, Cadillac rolled out its boldest step into the modern technological age, while retaining that familiar well-known flair. The 2013 Cadillac XTS is, by all accounts, a successful mesh of advanced, user-experience-oriented technology and old-school elegance, combining sophisticated performance and detail into a novel comprehensive in-vehicle experience so specific that it has its own name: CUE (Cadillac User Experience), which is a direct-driver interface that looks like a tablet PC embedded in the dashboard, with Smartphone-like touch-screen action giving you control over car functions and media all on the same screen. Essentially; compromise has never looked so good.

XTS CUE Interior

As sleek as the external appearance of the 2013 Cadillac XTS looks; the insides dazzle even more. The sleek metal and high-class wooden finishes, encircling the dashboard and doors, with leather seating and headrests for driver and passengers, makes the driving environment seem more like your living room than a four-door. No expense was spared to keep you and your passengers feeling like everything needed is merely an arms-reach away at the most, with a revolving faceplate that provides storage, to an unobtrusive mobile device holder for your cell-phone. LED lights add a touch of warmth and comfort to the in-car atmosphere, making every driving trip a cocoon-like experience.

XTS Interior Cabin

More powerful than its cousin (the previous generation of the luxury sedan line, the Cadillac CTS), the 2013 Cadillac XTS sports an increase in power and performance, boasting a 3.6L direct fuel-injection engine, with the drive system and trademark Brembo brakes to handle the 304 hp of fury. The advanced All-Wheel-Drive allows you to take your Cadillac out into the worst weather, confident in its fantastic road-gripping abilities, which employs a unique dual-mode Magnetic Ride Control to keep it driving like a luxury sedan should, even in that kind of disagreeable weather.

XTS Front

Not merely a comfort sedan, the 2013 Cadillac XTS runs neck-and-neck with the foremost leaders in driving safety. It works in tandem with you to locate and avoid impending crash situations, giving you a second and third eye on the road, and often seeing things even before you do. The warning can come in a triumvirate of auditory, visual and vibration alerts, with the Safety Alert Seat feature actually telling you from what side a problem may be unfolding on the road, and going the extra mile by instituting the emergency Automatic Collision Preparation (ACP) if things happen to quickly for your human senses to process.

XTS Exterior lighting

With its suite of sophisticated protection mechanisms, from the basic lane detection warnings, to forward collision alerts, combined with the arresting CUE functionality, the 2013 Cadillac XTS trumps the old adage, because it has both beauty and brains on the road.

2013 Cadillac ATS - Cadillac enters the compact luxury sedan segment

2013 Cadillac ATS

  • Performance
At a powerful 270 HP, the available 2.0L turbocharged ATS engine has more horsepower than the 2012 BW 328i
  • Design
The driver-focused interior defines luxury and refinement.Cadillac offers a choice of seven distinct handcrafted interior environments.
  • Technology
The availble Cadillac CUE driver interface offers access to a world of information and entertainment with a swipe of your finger or the natural sound of your voice. CUE will be cutting-edge far into the future.

Choosing the perfect car can be extremely challenging, because of the huge selection available in every category. The popularity of  the compact luxury sedan segment has been constantly rising amongst consumers. This is the segment, which the 2013 Cadillac ATS has a great shot at conquering. Competition is tuff, well known brands all pay accentuated attention on this category, due to large consumer demands. The BMW 3 series, the Lexus IS or the Mercedes C class have all been extremely successful in the past, therefore Cadillac won't have an easy job, when trying to win buyers over.

General Motors has high hopes for the 2013 Cadillac ATS, which was first unveiled in Detroit on the 8th of January, 2012. The design and development process took many years and was amongst the few projects that didn't get shut down in 2008, because of the recession. All the invested money and work, will hopefully pay off for GM. This car shows a new approach from Cadillac, who has been known to produce large luxury sedans and SUVs. The ATS is their lightest vehicle so far, with a curb weight just over a ton and a half, in addition the newly developed economical, yet powerful engines will surely appeal to large audiences.
2013 Cadillac ATS superbowl green hell

The design of the 2013 Cadillac ATS is devoted to "The art and science era", which is a design approach and philosophy used by Cadillac since the beginning of the 21st century. Classic Cadillac attributes, such as the vertical front headlights, the large grill with the logo or the relatively big wheels can be found alongside clean lines and ultramodern forms. As you would expect, the interior is all about luxury. Four models of the ATS will be available for order: Base, Luxury, Performance and Premium. All models are very well equipped and there are many add-on extras available. The high end vehicle will feature a Bose sound system and a newly developed infotainment system, called CUE (Cadillac User Experience). The equipment is brilliant as are the logically placed and easy-to-use controls.

ATS Interior with CUE

The base model comes with a 2.5 liter  four cylinder engine producing 200 HP, but there will also be a 2.0 turbocharged version and a 3.6 liter V6, these will be capable of 270 and 318 horsepower, for those who would like additional power and torque. There will be a manual and an automatic six speed gearbox available, which can deliver the power to either all four or the rear wheels.

It is said to be a driver friendly car, the engines prove this statement right as does the suspension, small curb weight and the 50/50 weight balance. It will be a light, nimble car which can be handled very precisely even at high speeds, thus providing an excellent driving experience. However it will also be a favored by the passengers as well, because the 2013 Cadillac ATS, staying true to Cadillac traditions, will be more spacious then most of it's competition.

ATS Lighting

The newly developed 2013 Cadillac ATS portrays a whole new approach to design from Cadillac, but parallel to that they have managed to stay loyal to the heritage which this American brand stands for. With a slight shift of target audience, the ATS can become a popular car amongst those who would like a sporty, but comfortable compact sedan. GM plans to sell the car first in the US later this year, then move to Asian and European markets.
